Case registered under 13 sections including sexual assault: What happened at Villupuram Anbu Jyoti Ashram? | Villupuram Anbu Jothi Illam’s horrific assault story

Alert: The Anbu Jyoti Ashram, which was functioning in Kundalapuliyur village near Villupuram, housed and cared for the mentally challenged, destitute and differently abled. There were complaints of various irregularities taking place here.



Salim Khan filed a writ petition in the High Court claiming that his elderly uncle, who was included in the archive, was missing. On the orders of the High Court, the police and the revenue department raided the Anbu Jyoti Ashram a few days ago.

Then, it was revealed that this ashram was being run without proper permission. Various startling information has come out including the beating and harassment of those who are cared for here and the sexual assault of women. A case has been registered under 13 sections and 9 people have been arrested namely ashram administrator Anbu Zupin Baby, his wife Maria and employees.

203 people, including 33 women from the ashram, were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Mundyambakkam. 99 of them were discharged yesterday. 44 people are still under treatment. The remaining 60 were sent to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai Valadhi and Cuddalore Depots.

Also, 25 persons from the branch of this ashram in Kotakuppam were rescued and included in the Villupuram government archive. Anbu Jyoti Ashram has been functioning for the last 18 years without any permission from the government.

When asked about what happened in this ashram, police, revenue department and differently abled welfare department, they said: Initially, this ashram was functioning in a small building and now this ashram has grown tremendously. It seems that it is very difficult for those who have entered this ashram to come out.

It has been revealed that mentally ill and physically challenged people who were kept here were used for their physical desires by threatening or hypnotizing them. A woman from Kolkata who was a cook there has complained about this.

In an interview given to a YouTube channel a few months ago, Maria Zubin, wife of Ashram administrator Anbu Zubin, said, 'We have buried more than 300 orphan bodies.' We are also investigating this. Thus they said.

When asked about this to Villupuram District Collector C. Palani, he said, "The Kundalapuliyur ashram administrators applied for permission in March last year. They were denied permission because they did not submit the necessary documents. Based on the complaints, the ashram has been ordered to be permanently closed," he said.

Natarajan, a resident of Sankaran Temple, Tenkasi district, lodged a missing complaint at Villupuram district Kedar police station that his blind uncle wife Lakshmiammal (80) and his mentally challenged son Muthuvinayagam (48) who were admitted to this ashram, are missing.
